Commissioned
Lay Pastors
“When the presbytery, in consultation with the session or other responsible committee, determines that its strategy for mission requires it, the presbytery may authorize a lay pastor to be commissioned to limited
pastoral service as assigned by the presbytery.”
(Book of Order G-2.1001)
Commissioned Lay Pastors (CLPs) serve a very important role in the life of the body of Christ. CLPs undergo training in theology, Bible, worship and sacraments and polity among other areas of ministry. Once they
have completed their course of study they may be commissioned by the presbytery to serve in a validated ministry for a particular congregation of the presbytery and are supervised by the Commission on Ministry.
